BSNL Adds More New Users Compared To Airtel In September

Reliance Jio continued to lead in new customer additions in September 2025, as reported by TRAI on Monday.

The company added 2,12,662 new wireline subscribers and 32.49 lakh new mobile subscribers during the month.

BSNL tops Airtel in new users as Jio growth continues: TRAI

With continued growth in its fixed wireless broadband customer base, Reliance Jio’s total subscriber base crossed the 50 crore mark for the first time, reaching over 50.64 crore.

BSNL maintained its lead over Bharti Airtel in net new mobile subscriber additions for September 2025.

BSNL added 5.24 lakh mobile subscribers, while Bharti Airtel added 4.37 lakh.

The total number of active mobile subscribers in India during September 2025 stood at 108.85 crore.

Vodafone Idea (Vi), MTNL, and Reliance Communications (RCom) continued to lose mobile customers.

Vi lost 7.44 lakh mobile subscribers.

MTNL lost 56,928 mobile subscribers.

RCom lost 13 mobile subscribers.

In the wireline segment, Bharti Airtel followed Jio by adding 97,383 customers, while Reliance Communications added 6,456.

Tata Teleservices saw the biggest decline in wireline users, losing 1.63 lakh subscribers.

Other wireline losses included MTNL (32,930), APSFL (19,049), Quadrant (1,733), BSNL (3,110), and Vi (3,125).

The total telecom subscriber base in India increased slightly to 122.89 crore in September 2025.

Of this total, the wireless segment accounted for 118.23 crore subscribers, while the wireline segment accounted for 4.66 crore.

The broadband subscriber base in India grew by about half a percent to reach 99.56 crore, moving close to the 100 crore mark.

The wireless broadband segment contributed 95.12 crore customers, while the wireline broadband segment contributed 4.44 crore.

Reliance Jio led the broadband market with 50.54 crore customers.

Top Five Broadband Providers in India In September 2025

The top five broadband providers in September 2025 were:
  • Reliance Jio – 50.54 crore customers
  • Bharti Airtel – 31 crore customers
  • Vi – 12.77 crore customers
  • BSNL – 3.47 crore customers
  • Atria Convergence – 23.4 lakh customers

Together, these five companies held a 98.5% share of the total broadband market in September 2025.
