The popular messaging app, WhatsApp keeps its users engaged with new features and updates for the platform.
Whatsapp Feature Allowing Sending High-definition (HD) Photos
Basically, this Meta-owned messaging platform is rolling out a new feature on Android and iOS beta, which allows users to send high-definition (HD) photos.
In simple words, the users can choose a better quality when sending photos, with this new feature.
It is noteworthy here that the option only appears when the users select a large size picture, as per the media report.
In fact, this feature preserves image dimensions, but minor compression will still be applied to the picture, thus sending photos in their original quality is not possible.
Notably, the default option will always be ‘Standard quality’ for all pictures.
Therefore, users have to select the HD option every time they want to send a photo with better quality.
How Does It Work?
While sending a photo with the ‘high quality’ option, a new tag will be added to the message bubble.
This is just to inform the recipient that the photo is sent using this feature.
So far, this ability to send HD photos is rolling out to some beta testers on Android and iOS.
Soon, it is expected to roll out to more users over the coming weeks, as per the report.
Earlier during January this year, it was reported that the messaging platform was working on this feature for Android beta.
In the following month, another report mentioned that this feature was in the works for iOS beta.
WhatsApp Introducing Channels
In another update, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called ‘WhatsApp Channels’.
This latest WhatsApp feature introduces a new type of communication to the world’s most popular chat app, as per the media report.
The feature is known as Channels, and it’s intended for one-to-many broadcasting rather than discussion.
Further, the social media messaging firm described it as “a private way to follow what matters,”.
It mentions local and sports updates as examples of how you may use it.
Basically, Channels is a new tab called Updates, where you’ll find Status and channels you choose to follow – separate from your chats with family, friends, and communities.
In fact, Channels are a one-way broadcast tool for admins to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls.
In order to help in selecting the channels to follow, the company is building a searchable directory where you can find your hobbies, sports teams, updates from local officials, and more.
Notably, this feature is offered with most private broadcast services available.
It starts by protecting the personal information of both admins and followers.
So, as a channel admin, your phone number and profile photo won’t be shown to followers.
Similarly, following a channel won’t reveal your phone number to the admin or other followers.
This way, who you decide to follow is your choice and it’s private.
Privacy is an important component of the experience, which is why channel admins’ information isn’t shared and the app only saves 30 days of a channel’s history, According to WhatsApp statement.
