Apple is preparing to enter the foldable smartphone segment, with leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecasting the launch of its first foldable iPhone in 2026. Production is expected to begin in late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025. The project is being led by Foxconn, but key components, including the highly anticipated hinge, are still being finalized.

Book-Style Design With Advanced Display Technology
Unlike the clamshell designs seen in some foldable phones, Apple’s version is tipped to follow a book-style format similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold series. It will feature a large 7.8-inch internal display aimed to be crease-free and a 5.5-inch external screen. The foldable display panels will be manufactured by Samsung Display, which is preparing for a limited production run for Apple in 2026.
The foldable iPhone may also include a titanium alloy frame, a dual-camera setup, and a compact form factor—under 5mm when open and around 9mm when folded. Touch ID is expected to make a return as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor due to space constraints, replacing Face ID.
Shipments, Price and Long-Term Outlook
Initial shipments in 2026 are expected to range between 3 to 5 million units. Apple reportedly plans to sell 15–20 million foldable iPhones over the next 2–3 years, indicating a gradual rollout rather than a mass-market launch. With a projected price between $2,000 and $2,500 (₹1.73 to ₹2.16 lakh), the foldable iPhone will be aimed at premium users and early tech adopters.
If successful, this could open a new product line for Apple, helping it counter slowing iPhone sales in mature markets like Europe and China.
