Finally, the Indian Railways has taken a big decision to improve the ticketing system and offer a smooth traveling experience to passengers.
In a major decision to overhaul ticketing system, Indian Railways said that the waiting list tickets would now be restricted, which will reduce overcrowding at the stations and curtail confusion over status of the tickets.

Basically, this new policy will limit the number of waiting list tickets to 25 per cent of the total seating capacity of all trains.
Indian Railways Restricting Waiting List Tickets
Please note here that this decision is made for all kinds of coaches and berths in the entire passenger fleet of trains.
Under this decision, the Indian Railways has reduced the number of waiting list tickets for trains and only 25 percent of the total number of berths in each category will be allowed as waiting list tickets.
This decision by Indian railways is also intended to reduce the congestion on platforms and in trains.
This process has already been implemented in most railway zones this week.
So far, each railway zone has been imposing different norms for allowing waiting list tickets on long-distance trains.
According to these rules, waiting list tickets were issued for up to 300 seats in the AC coaches and 400 in sleeper coaches usually.
The passangers who were holding the waiting list ticket could board the train in the hope of finding a berth and sometimes end up in congestion and conflict.
But this latest implementation opened a way to avoid these issues.
How Does It Works?
As per this policy, after allocating to various quotas, 25 percent of the total seats in each category will be given as waiting list tickets in that category.
They have reached to this number because on average 20-25 percent of waiting list tickets are confirmed in each category, based on the calculation.
In case a user tries to take a ticket after the specified limit is over then it will be shown as ‘regret’.
So, moving forward, these passangers will have to rely on immediate reservation or a general coach.
It is noteworthy here that these regulations will not be applicable to special concessional quotas for differently-abled persons, military personnel and others.
This also indicates that now the passengers will have to be quick if they have to book the tickets as they now have reduced hopes of getting their tickets booked after the reduction in the number of waiting list tickets.
It would be useful in more ways as it will help in reduction the congestion of people and remove confusion over ticket status.
