BSNL’s 2GB/Day Plan A Huge Hit, 400TB Data Consumed In One Day; Jio Deploys 200 GBPS Speed Infrastructure
Amidst the buzz from Jio, counter offers from Airtel and blockbusters merger of Idea-Vodafone, we somehow missed the lethal attack which BSNL has unleashed via their new data tariff plans.
And reports are emerging that BSNL has fulfilled all expectations in an excellent manner. If you had any doubt regarding BSNL’s fan base, this fact will clear those doubts: On one particular day, BSNL users have consumed 400 TB of data. This is a record in BSNL’s and Indian telecom’s history.
BSNL’s New Data Plans Are A Massive Hit
As on March 16th, BSNL launched an offer wherein their customers can get unlimited voice calls and 2 GB data per day by paying Rs 339 per month.
This was an offer to counter Jio’s Prime offer, which is offering 1 GB data per day, for Rs 303 per month.
As on March 19th, a blog tracked that BSNL users have consumed massive 400 TB of data, mainly utilising the Rs 339 offer. And users from South Indian states were the ones to optimally use this plan.
As per KeralaTelecom Info blog, as on March 19th, 4 Southern Indian states: Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh users collectively consumed 227.08 TB of data, and among them, Kerala users consumed 101 TB of data.
While North Zone users consumed only 73.5 TB of data, West Zone users consumed 68 TB and East Zone contributed 39 TB of data usage.
These facts clearly showcase that BSNL’s Rs 339 plan is a big hit among masses, and if properly marketed and advertised, they have the capability to become even popular plans than Airtel’s or Jio’s.
Jio Deploys High-Speed Data Infrastructure With 200 GBPS Speed
Meanwhile, Jio has taken a very important step for ensuring that their existing and new users get a high-speed data connection, anywhere in India.
Jio has awarded Ciena a contract to deploy Multi-Terabit Converged Packet-Optical Tech from Ciena, which supports whooping 200 GBPS speed. As per the official statement issued, this deployment will “unleash the digital revolution in India,”.
Jyotindra Thacker, President at Reliance Jio said, “With Ciena, we are not only able to provide robust scalability to offer new levels of data consumption, which is already 8 to 10 times above market levels, but also a supreme level of confidence in our network’s reliability and level of service that stands out in our marketplace..”
Under this new arrangement, Jio will deploy Ciena’s 6500 and 5430 Packet-Optical Platform, which is powered by WaveLogic coherent technology. Not only speed can be improved using this new deployment, but also it will provide massive scaling opportunity for Jio.
Besides, Ciena-enabled OneConnect restoration makes it easier to restore optical fibre failures, as it quickly allocates a divergent path which means more uptime and more happy users.
Consistency and speed needs to be Jio’s USP if they want paying customers after March 31st, when their free offers end. And it seems that deploying Ciena’s high-speed data infrastructure is the right step in that direction.
