Byju’s Owned WhiteHat Jr Fires Upto 300 Employees As Revenues Dry Up; These Job Profiles Impacted The Most
According to the sources, after over 800 employees tendered their resignations in May, as many as 280-300 employees have been laid off by WhiteHat Jr, owned by Byju’s.
In the edtech sector, this comes at the back of mass layoffs, restructuring, and shutdowns.
Latest in joining the fray of startups in Edtech, is WhiteHatJr which after a year of aggressive hiring and high employee cost has laid off employees in large numbers.
Sales & Marketing Facing the Flak
Through this round of layoff, the employees from the sales and marketing team at WhiteHat have been largely impacted as per the sources.
According to various industry sources, the engineering and product roles have been mostly insulated from the heat and the sales and marketing are the ones facing the flak.
The current round of downsizing has affected employees both in India and other geographies, as per another source.
An official statement confirming the range of layoffs has also been shared by the company spokesperson.

To realign with our business priorities, we are optimizing our team to accelerate results and best position the business for long-term growth. WhiteHat Jr continues to put students first and invest in building a high-quality teacher’s network” said the statement.
As many as 800 employees from Byju’s-owned Whitehat Junior resigned earlier in May as they were immediately asked to move to different cities.
As per many employees, Whitehat Junior was looking to cut costs and hence they decided to the relocate without giving any prior intimation, which led many people to resign.
In a $300 million all-cash deal, Whitehat Jr was sold to BYJU’S in 2020.
