Sony’s 1st Ever Car Launch Will Be An Electric SUV: 100Kmph In 5 Seconds Promised! (Price, Launch Date)

The newest company to join the wagon of electric cars is Sony! Yes, the automobile maker is planning to commercially launch its first-ever electric car. 

Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO at Sony has confirmed this during the company’s keynote address at CES 2022.

Sony To Launch New Electric Vehicle? CEO Confirms!

Yesterday, we reported to you that Sony will start commercializing their EVs under a new division called Sony Mobility Inc. 

The company had previously showcased its Vision-S concept way back in 2020. However, reports were that Vision-S is only a display by Sony of what it is capable of in the automotive technology; it wasn’t a firm commitment by the company about entering the automotive market.

The CEO said, “We are exploring the commercial launch of Sony EV. Sony is well-positioned as a creative entertainment company to redefine mobility.”

The Sony Vision-S was spotted in test runs on public roads soon after the showcase!

Sony Vision-S: Specifications And Features

As per reports, the car is a sedan and will come with 40 sensors for better autonomous driving capabilities. Sony had already promised that the EV will have a 360-degree audio feature. It can also receive updates over the air (OTA), support 5G, and has a huge infotainment screen.

The car borrows a lot of ideas from the  Porsche design language. The concept car comes with a 536hp dual-motor all-wheel drive system, can hit 100 kmph in under five seconds and has a top speed of 240 kmph.

During the CES 2022, Sony started off with PlayStation VR 2, Sony confirmed the new details about the head-mounted display with new controllers called Sense Controllers. It will feature an OLED display, will also include 4 cameras and a controller-tracking IR camera.

During the same event, Chairman, President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida showed off a brand new prototype of its Vision S, the concept electric car where the company is starting off with a new division – the Sony Mobility Inc, where it will commercialize its electric vehicles.
