HDFC Bank is always on the headlines and this time the case has happened in the HDFC Gurguram branch.
In an unlawful transaction, HDFC deducted Rs 56,763 from a customer’s account to cover a claimed debt on a credit card that was neither authorised nor used.
Now there are stories of frauds and fraudsters, stories of unethical ways that hamper our peace. As a common man, one expects life to be simple and easy-going, for that he saves for a living and majorly trust the bank thinking that their money is in the safe hand.

This is the story of a customer (name withheld) who was granted a credit card by the HDFC Gurguram branch, which was never used.
The bank began sending bills worth Rs 14,500 for a card that was never sought yet received but never used in 2015-16. Seeing this the customer wanted to know about this bill and tried to enquire but there was no response from the bank.
The customer contacted the branch manager and explained to him the whole issue, the branch manager suggested destroying the card and sending it to the Chennai office, which he did right there in front of him.
But unfortunately, the customer continued to get credit card statements after that also. The customer decided to mail to Aditya Puri, the chairman of the bank and address the issue but still after all the efforts and constant follow-ups the case was not taken seriously.
Again the bank started calling and harassing regarding the credit card debts in 2021. Also a Legal notice was delivered by the bank regarding the credit card debts in 2021.
HDFC Bank Does Something Unbelievable!
The customer had an HDFC Standard Life policy and which was to be ended, HDFC Bank debited Rs 56,763 from the customer’s bank account instead of the credit card bills without even notifying.
Now According to RBI regulation, the bank by any means is not allowed to take money from the savings account to pay for this debt. This debt was incurred on a credit card and should have been handled separately.
Also, a cancelled Kotak Mahindra Bank cheque was sent as part of the redemption process.
HDFC Bank On The Matter
No Clarity From The bank Made it More Difficult!
The settlement was repeatedly postponed by HDFC Life, which claimed it had not received the message. The money vanished after the quantity was credited into the specified account following many entreaties.
The bank has not given any summary of transactions or cash memo signed by the bank client, nor has it provided any paperwork proving that the credit card was requested or used.
There were several times when the customer was harassed by the bank.
The emails show that the bank was frequently asked for clarification to explain how the credit card was even used by the client. The bank has always denied the obligations and didn’t show any clarity.
How HDFC Prevented The Client From Genuine Information?
Firstly there is no record of a request for such a credit card is made!
No details of the credit card on the HDFC portal. The bank has withheld true information from the client to clarify the situation.
The HDFC Gurugram branch had to settle the matter, it was their responsibility to make sure that the customer’s problem is solved, but the branch decided to flee from their responsibility and forward the case to the Chennai office!
