Cyber crime police of Uttar Pradesh have arrested three people based in Haryana for cheating Amazon for a huge amount.
Two of these people are from Fatehbad and the other one is from Hisar.
Read on to find out how they looted the e-commerce platform.
Amazon Duped Of Lakhs Of Rupees By Fraudsters
The accused have been caught by a team of Noida cyber crime police station.
This is not the first time Amazon has been scammed. We have previously reported about Bengaluru police arresting a woman who duped Amazon India of Rs 70 lakh. Exploiting a major loophole in Amazon’s policies, she ordered original products using a fake name, but returned fake, faulty products.
The fraud was unearthed after Amazon discovered a series of fake products being returned, and then found that the source of these returns are the same.
We also reported that a team of fraudsters were duping Amazon worth crores of rupees since the last 2-3 years. the accused used to order high-end products on Amazon, change the product with those of inferior quality and then cancelled or returned the bookings, leading to double losses to the company.
The police team could successfully recover mobile phones along with 29 SIMs from the two accused and also seized fake stickers of numerous high-end products such as smart-watches and mobiles which they were planning to use for fraud in the days ahead.
Modus Operandi
As per the statement by the UP Police, the fraudsters had created multiple accounts on Amazon’s website through fake identification and used them to order various products. All these were prepaid orders.
After the goods were received, the accused would again contact Amazon and demand a refund by stating that the products were defective or by stating some other pretext. As per the return policy of Amazon, a delivery partner would come to pickup the “defective product” and refund the money.
Now, the criminals would then collaborate with the delivery partners of Amazon and replace the original product. The delivery agents would also mark these orders as “picked up” on the database and a refund would be issued in the bank accounts of the accused with their Amazon accounts.
These products will now be sold at a cheaper rate in the markets of Delhi-NCR.
