Amazon’s Job Fair Will Hire 8000 Employees In 24 Hours; 50,000 Indians Will Be Hired In 12 Months
According to Reuters, Amazon’s scaling up hiring in India, chief executive Andy Jassy has said the company is planning to hire 55,000 people for corporate and technology roles globally in the coming months.
“We are seeking passionate builders out there to join us in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to digitally transform India,” said Amit Agarwal, global senior vice president and country head, Amazon India.
Amazon stated that it will continue to support the government’s efforts to expand job creation and skill training programmes across the country. Also, on September 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. IST, Amazon will host the Career Day event.

Jassy said that over 40,000 will be in the United States and the rest will be in countries such as India, Germany and Japan via its job fair ‘Amazon Career Day.’
Jassy, in his first press interview, said that there is a huge demand in retail, the cloud and advertising and since Amazon is launching satellites into orbit to widen broadband access, called Project Kuiper, would require a lot of new hires
“There are so many jobs during the pandemic that have been displaced or have been altered, and there are so many people who are thinking about different and new jobs,” said Jassy, who cited a U.S. survey from PwC that 65% of workers wanted a new gig, according to Reuters.
According to Amazon, the new hiring will lead to a 20% increase in the workforce, which now stands at roughly 275,000 people worldwide.
“Everybody at the company has the freedom – and, the expectation – to critically look at how it can be better and then invent ways to make it better,” Jassy told Reuters.
