Confirmed! Honda Will Launch SUVs In India To Fight Hyundai, Kia, Maruti, Tata
The new Honda SUV is expected to share its platform with the City. According to certain sources, the new SUV (codename: 31XA) will be developed on a brand new platform.
“We are developing a brand new, India-focused SUV,”
Rajesh Goel, senior vice president and director, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India told Autocar India in an interview.
Honda S-SUV 31XA Platform
Honda has been losing market share due to the significant development in demand for SUVs, despite sedans being a traditional Honda stronghold in the country.
“We see the shift to SUVs has accelerated in the first seven months of this year. Till July 2021, the share of SUVs went up by as much as 34 per cent. So the pace is accelerating and the biggest hit has been taken by sedans, I can’t hide that. The sedan percentage share in each segment is decreasing,” said Goel.
Honda might be working on an SUV based on the City platform. Nothing is sure as of now. The S-SUV (code: 31XA) might come in two versions: two-row seating and three-row seating.
Honda Amaze
Honda Cars India announced the debut of an updated version of its compact sedan Amaze in India, with prices ranging from Rs 6.32 lakh to Rs 11.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
“Amaze is important because it contributes to almost 40-50 per cent of our volumes,” said Goel.
“India is an extremely important market in Honda’s global strategy and we are committed to bringing our latest technologies and products for our customers here,”
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Gaku Nakanishi told reporters in a virtual unveiling event.
“The new Amaze with its enhanced looks and styling is aimed to delight our customers offering them one class above sedan experience. We are launching the model just before the onset of the festive period and are confident that the car will be received with much enthusiasm by our customers” he added.
