SBI Says Link Your PAN-Aadhaar Or Face Deactivation

In May, we reported to you that amid the second wave of Covid-19, the State Bank of India (SBI) has decided to let its customers update their KYC (Know Your Customer) details from the comfort and safety of their homes. SBI has taken the decision in view of the lockdowns introduced by many states to break the chain of Covid-19 infections.

In June, the country’s largest bank has asked all its customers to link their PAN-Aadhaar by June 30. However, as per its latest tweet, the bank has extended the deadline till September 30.

The tweet says, “We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue enjoying a seamless banking service. #ImportantNotice #AadhaarLinking #Pancard #AadhaarCard”

The bank has also stated that if customers do not link their PAN and Aadhaar, they will not be able to enjoy a seamless banking experience

The bank has also stated that it is mandatory to link PAN with the Aadhaar. If PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, then PAN will be rendered inactive. It will also not be useful for conducting some specific transactions.

The Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961 dictates that every person who has a PAN and is eligible for an Aadhaar number must  intimate his Aadhaar number to the income tax authorities.
