Kia Sonet
6,627 units of Sonet were dispatched this May compared to 7,724 units dispatched in April.
Sales have declined by 14%, but the Sonet still takes the pole position to become the most dispatched compact-SUV of the month
Tata Nexon
In comparison, Tata sold 6,439 units of the Nexon in May, a decline of 7% compared to the April figures of 6,938.
Despite this, the Nexon saw increased sales after it received a facelift last year.
It also enjoys a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.
Hyundai Venue
The Venue saw plunging sales by 57% as 4,840 units were sold in May, as opposed to 11,245 units in April.
This takes the Venue to the third position.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The Vitara Brezza has also fallen from the top with only 2,648 units sold in May.
This is a massive drop of 76% as it enjoyed sales of 11,220 units in April.
Renault Kiger
1,326 units of Kiger were dispatched in May, a sharp decline of 56% as it sold 2,800 units in April.
Reason Behind Dropping Dispatch Sales: 1) Covid
The ongoing pandemic is a big reason behind sales dropping as it forced lockdowns across the country.
In such a situation, people were prioritising saving money instead of spending on automobiles.
A car is also a depreciating investment, further lowering its appeal.
2) Factories Shuttered
Many automakers were forced to shut down their manufacturing plants.
Among them, Maruti Suzuki took the step in order to conserve oxygen required for those seriously infected and oxygen-deprived.
Others were forced to shut as they were instructed by their state govts as part of lockdown rules.
All these adversely affected production.
3) Dispatch Vs Retail Sales
As mentioned earlier, the figures all pertain to dispatch sales which differ from retail sales.
Once the retail numbers are disclosed, the sales figures for all the brands could increase.
Even then, the Vitara Brezza or Hyundai Venue can be expected to take the top spot.
