1.47 Lakh Kia Seltos Recalled Due To Faulty Engine: Is Your Kia Seltos Impacted
A massive recall for the Kia Seltos and Kia Soul in United States by Kia Motors.
Massive Recall By Kia
The massive recall activity for two of its vehicles has been announced by the South Korean automaker in US. A total of 147,249 units of these Kia cars will done under this recall.
The reason behind this recall is that the 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine of these cars did not receive the appropriate heat treatment which led to harder piston oil rings. Now this hardening of the rings can scrape the cylinder bore as well as increase the consumption of oil.
If these cars are operated, then it could result in:
- Engine damage
- Increased risk of crash
- Loss of power
- Risk of fire
Kia Motors said, in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, that there was someone inconsistency at the supplier end during the production of piston oil ring which resulted in excessive hardness. Kia said that this excessive hardness can result in chipping of the piston oil ring’s outer periphery and scuffing of the cylinder bore which in turn could lead to increased oil consumption which will eventually result in abnormal noise from the engine and/or illumination of the oil pressure warning light.
Details Of 2021 Kia Seltos, Soul recall
- All the Kia Seltos manufactured between 20 November, 2019 and 15 October,2020 have been recalled.
- All the Kia Soul manufactured between 24 November, 2018 and 24 October,2020 have been recalled.
- The problem is that the cars with the affected 2.0-litre engine may not have been properly heat-treated, resulting in increased risk of engine damage.
These vehicles will be taken to dealerships wherein post inspection, a software will be added in order to send out alerts in case a problem is detected. For some of the vehicles, the dealership may replace the engine entirely.
