The Kia Sonet 7 has been released for the iIndonesian market. It is a 7-seater SUV which was manufactured in the Indian Kia manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
Despite being manufactured in India, there is no confirmation on whether it will launch here too.
But the Indian auto market has an appetite for 7-seaters and SUVs so one cannot rule it out.
However in all probability Kia will shift its initial focus toward the global market at large.
There are some differences between the Indonesian version of the Sonet and the one available in India.

In Indonesia
The Sonet is 4,120 mm in length, with 2 seats added to the boot which is accessible by folding down the seats in the second row.
The Sonet is available in only one engine option- 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
It has a max power output of 115 PS and a 144 Nm of peak torque
It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an IVT transmission
The car comes in 3 drive modes- Eco, Normal, and Sport
In India
The Sonet is 3,995 mm in length, keeping it under 4m which provides tax benefits to the automaker.
It comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 83 PS of max power and a 115 Nm peak torque.
It is offered with only a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Both versions are 1,790 mm in width and 1,642 mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.

New Car For India
Kia is reportedly developing an MUV internally codenamed KY MPV. It has been spied a few times being tested on the road.
It will be the fourth product from Kia in India after Seltos, Carnival and Sonet.
It will be expected to share a platform with Kia Seltos and will be 4,500 mm in length.
It is set to be positioned between Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta due to its 4.5m length.
In terms of pricing, however, it will directly compete against the Mahindra Marazzo.
Just like the Sonet, the KY MPV will also be locally assembled at the Anantapur facility.
Kia will be targeting a sale of 50,000 units in india and 26,000 units as exports
Coming to features, given its size it will likely contain 3 rows of seating- meaning a 6 or 7 seat configuration.
It could be powered by a
- 1.5-litre petrol with power output of 114 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque
- or 1.5-litre diesel engine with power output of 114 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.
Both will have manual and automatic transmission.
Its expected launch is in Jan 2022. It is likely to be priced under Rs 20 lakh.
