1000 Kms of Metro Across 27 Indian Cities
During the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project, PM Modi announced Govt’s mega metro push.
He informed the nation that massive work is underway for expanding metro operations pan-India.
More than 1000 kms of metro work is already being done across 27 major Indian cities right now.
While Ahmedabad’s 2nd phase of metro is 28.25 kms long, Surat’s new metro will be 40 kms long. While more than Rs 5000 crore will be spent on Ahmedabad’s Phase 2 metro, Rs 12,000 crore has been allocated for Surat’s metro.
PM Modi said, “There was a time when there was no modern thinking and policy on metro in our country. The result was that there was a different (type of) metro in each city,”
He informed that before 2014, only 225 kms of metro line was operational in India as a result of 10-12 years of work, which has now increased to 450 kms.
