Jio To Non-Jio Calls Will Free, Once Again
Reliance has confirmed that all Jio to non-Jio will be now free, and unlimited, for all users.
From September, 2019 onwards, Jio had started charging 6 paisa/min from their users, for all non-Jio calls.
Jio to Jio calls were always free.
In a statement, Jio said, “Jio stands firm on its commitment to make the common Indian the beneficiary of advanced technologies like VoLTE. Jio is a customer-obsessed organisation and cares for every single user. All our users enjoy free voice calls with Jio,”
How Did This Happen?
Effective January 1st, TRAI will not implement IUC or Interconnect Usage Charges for domestic calls.
IUC is charged when the user of a telecom operator makes a call to another users from another telecom operator. Hence, if Jio user calls an Airtel network, then Jio needs to pay an IUC of 6 paisa to Airtel.
Now, since Jio is purely based on VoLTE network, and Airtel/Vi/BSNL are based on GSM network, Jio had decided to levy this IUC charge on the customers.
But now, it ends.
So basically, it’s TRAI’s decision of abolishing IUC, which enabled Jio to stop charging their customers.
Reliance said, “Honouring its commitment to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero, as soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1st January 2021. On-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network,”
