Maruti’s New Sub-Compact SUV Can Be Priced At Rs 5 Lakh; Design Based On Baleno Model?
According to recent reports, Maruti Suzuki is shortly going to introduce a new subcompact SUV based on the hatchback model of Baleno.
Let’s know more about this new launch.
Which new model is Maruti Suzuki working on?
The Indian car manufacturer is working on a sub four meter SUV based on the model of Baleno and planned to be placed below Vitara Breeza. Consequently, the model that has been temporarily named YTB is expected to be a small crossover or a coupe. Toyota has come in collaboration with MAruti Suzuki to work on this medium sized SUV.
The YTB is going to take advantage of Maruti’s classic heartect platform which is made of high quality tensile steel to provide safety to its passengers. Its lightweight architecture will also reduce the requirement of manufacturing resources.
The YTB model can be positioned between Maruti Suzuki current smallest SUV, S presso, and Global C platform based Vitara Brezza in the market.
What will be its price of this new model?
Clearly, the price of the YTB model is expected to be in the range of the prices of S presso (Rs 3.70 lakh to Rs 5.13 lakh) and Vitara Brezza (Rs. 7.34 lakh and Rs. 11.4 lakh). Thus, the price of the new medium sized SUV will range from Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh. Nissan Magnite will give a tough competition to YTB since the target audience of both of the SUVs are similar.
What is the current position of Vitara Brezza in the market?
The emergence of new models like Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue, has threatened four years of well grounded market presence of Vitara Brezza. Besides the negligence of Maruti’s automobiles towards the BS 6 norms has dug the hole deeper for the subcompact crossover SUV. Its competitors offer dual fuel engines1.5L diesel and 1.0L petrol while Breeza provides just a 1.L petrol engine.
However, Maruti Suzuki is planning to resume the production of diesel engines next year. Hopefully, these plans will help the Indian automobile manufacturer re establish itself in the market.
