Xiaomi’s Latest Innovation!
Many smartphone manufacturers are coming up with innovations to hide their front camera. The bezels transformed into notches and then into punch holes.
The next transformation for the front camera is the under-display camera on the screen which the Xiaomi is calling 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera.
The successor to this third-gen was a camera and a screen on a prototype that wasn’t good enough for mass production. The third version is ready and perfect to be inculcated in the smartphone with wider availability.
The company’s blog post announcing this development read, “This brand-new technology is able to perfectly disguise the front camera under the phone’s screen without ruining the edge-to-edge display effect. Eschewing punch holes and dot drops, this technology makes a perfect full-screen form factor a reality.”
This development marks Xiaomi’s latest strategic step towards the high-end smartphone segment.
Features of the 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera
Xiaomi says it’s been able to effectively double the pixel density and let the light through to the camera, without sacrificing the uniformity of the screen. It is borrowing colors from the neighboring pixels. Although it is able to turn off or go black on-demand when the camera is turned on.
The blog post read, “The technology allows the screen to pass light through the gap area of ??sub-pixels, allowing every single pixel to retain a complete RGB subpixel layout without sacrificing pixel density.”
With this pixel arrangement, Xiaomi is now able to implement its own understanding of how light should be transmitted in order to minimize any glare.
The result — the image is extremely clear with proper vibrant colors and with improved quality.
The upcoming Mi smartphones in 2021 will likely see this new front camera!
