JEE Main 2020, NEET 2020 Exams Cannot Be Cancelled: Here Is The Reason Why?
JEE Main 2020, and NEET 2020 are the biggest and more crucial entrance exams for getting into the best engineering and medical colleges in India.
While JEE Main 2020 is scheduled to happen between July 18th and July 23rd; NEET 2020 will start from July 26th.
But since CBSE and ICSE Class 10th and 12th examinations have been canceled, students are now demanding that JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 examinations should also be canceled.
But IITs have opposed the cancellation of JEE Main 2020, and it seems that canceling the exams this year seems tough.
Will Education Minister cancel the exams for JEE and NEET?
Students Demand Cancellation Of JEE 2020, NEET 2020
Ever since CBSE and ICSE Boards canceled the class 10th and class 12th exams, students have been asking Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to cancel NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020 exams as well.
Both of these exams are scheduled to start from July 18th.
The students are claiming that going for the exams outside their home, into the examination centers will endanger them to infections.
Some students have said that life is more important than an exam, and the Govt should cancel this year’s NEET 2020 and JEE 2020 exams with immediate effect.
Several educational experts and activists have supported this movement to cancel the entrance exams.
Dr. R Murali, Tamil Nadu Secretary, Save Higher Education Movement said, “Everyone is under distress during this COVID19 pandemic and the cases are only expected to increase in July and August. An examination for crores of students across the country would be impossible to be held safely. At least for this one year, the exams must be scrapped for students’ sake.”
Around 15 lakh students will be appearing for NEET 2020, and around 9 lakh students for JEE Main 2020.
But Why This Seems Tough?
In the case of CBSE and ICSE Board exams, the students will be provided average marks, based on the internal exams and pre-board exams in some instances.
Students who are not happy with their marks can attempt for an examination later on, when the infections reduce, and schools open up.
But in the case of JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020, this seems to the main problem: How will they evaluate students for a critical entrance examination into premier colleges and Universities?
If there are no entrance exams, then the entire academic year will go waste, and none of the colleges and Universities can intake students.
And giving ranks to the students based on their class 12th exams seems unfair.
There can be no provision for online exams as well, so soon, and at a short notice. IITs have already opposed canceling the exams this year.
Govt and JEE, NEET nodal authorities are in a fix on this decision.
