Here are more details.
Joining Dates Of Freshers Postponed
Cognizant has announced that joining dates of freshers and campus hires across India has been postponed to September.
They were expected to join in from May onwards, as per the offer letters issued.
Cognizant has made offers to more than 20,000 freshers and campus hires, all over the country,
Brian Humphries, chief executive officer, Cognizant said, “We remain committed to growth and plan to honour the more than 20,000 campus offers we have made. The timing of our trainees’ start date in India will be deferred to Q3 (July-September). This will continue to be dependent on lockdowns and school schedules across India,”
Most Of the Lateral Hirings Stopped
Besides stopping the joining dates of freshers, Cognizant has also stopped most of the lateral hirings, across all their campuses.
Lateral hiring is the recruitment of experienced employees.
However, they will continue to hire sales experts, in both freshers and experience profiles.
Brian said, “We will continue to move forward with our sales hiring plan and other key positions and honour all outstanding accepted offers,”
He also mentioned the fact that hiring plan and schedule will gradually evolve, as there comes more clarity over the projects and client’s stand.
Cognizant’s Plan
Cognizant is right now India’s 2nd biggest IT employer with 2.9 lakh employees, which only second to TCS which has 4.5 lakh employees.
As of now, as part of Cognizant’s 2020 and beyond vision, they are focussing on 4 core areas: data, digital engineering, cloud, and the internet of things (IoT).
We may expect more hirings and movements in these areas.
