Redmi Pro 2: What’s True & What’s Not, All You Need To Know (Does It Even Exist?)
A new rumoured flagship from Redmi has been making the headlines since a speculated picture went viral. Dubbed as Redmi Pro 2, the smartphone has been rumoured to the next flagship in the Redmi lineup.
While some reports suggested features, many hinted at being fake.
We find out.
We earlier reported that a new leak has come out suggested to be the second generation Redmi Pro 2 smartphone. The leak hinted at a pop-up selfie camera, rear triple camera setup, Snapdragon 855 chip and more.
So, what went wrong?
What was being speculated to the Redmi Pro 2, it’s just another smartphone being allegedly leaked to spread fake rumours.
According to leakter Ishan Agarwal, it’s not the Redmi Pro 2 smartphone. The leaker intentionally put out a fake picture of an Energizer smartphone housing the pop-up selfie camera.
Redmi Pro 2: What’s True?
Previously, the alleged Redmi Pro 2 was leaked in a rumoured picture, said to sport a pop-up selfie camera. The other leaked specs included a triple rear camera setup including Sony IMX 586 48MP sensor and Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, Snapdragon 855 SoC.
This is not the first time Redmi Pro 2 has been leaked.
Back in January, the smartphone was leaked with a punch-hole display in an image running on Snapdragon 675 chip, the same SoC which powers the current Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphone. This leak also suggested the same 48MP Sony sensor.
The latest leak of Snapdragon 855 powered Xiaomi device, Redmi Pro 2 is fake.
It all started with a Weibo post hinting it at to the alleged Redmi Pro 2 smartphone. The leaked image of the Redmi Pro 2 though is actually an Energizer phone and not a Redmi device.
The company too is yet to confirm the existence of the Redmi Pro 2.
Xiaomi VP previously have said that Redmi will only focus on budget and mid-range smartphones, while Mi smartphones will target the upper mid-range and entry premium categories.
Though the company earlier confirmed that a new Redmi phone is in development which will run on Snapdragon 855 SoC.
Redmi Pro 2: What’s Not True?
There’s already a lot of misinformation available about Redmi Pro 2. On the other hand, the smartphone is yet to be confirmed by the company. Certainly the features and specs like Snapdragon 855 powering Redmi Pro 2 are fake as of now.
The list includes the three camera rear setup and pop-up selfie camera as well.
The leak also suggested a panoramic full-screen display. With the pop-up selfie camera on top, the device was being speculated to come without any notch or hole in the display.
Fact Check: Does Redmi Pro 2 Even Exist?
After all the drama, that’s the million dollar question. Recently Xiaomi seperated Redmi from its hat to re-launch it as a new independent brand. While it still works under Xiaomi, it’s an entire different brand now.
The company previously confirmed that a Redmi device with Snapdragon 855 is in the works.
The last flagship from Redmi was Redmi Pro, so leaksters have used Redmi Pro 2 as a safe assumption.
The company hasn’t confirmed the name yet.
Though, it has confirmed that there’s a Redmi device in the line running on a Snapdragon 855 chip.
So, we can’t confirm whether a Redmi Pro 2 exists in real or not, but a Redmi flagship powered by Snapdragon 855 definitely does.
The existence of Snapdragon 855 certainly adds the possibility of the 48MP Sony sensor in a rear triple camera setup. Though it’s too early to comment on the pop-up selfie camera.
So keeping the naming part aisde, be rest assured that there’s a Redmi flagship in the making.
