Idea Beats Vodafone In Subscriber Growth; This Is What Idea Would Be Known After Merger!

In a surprise twist of events, Idea has beaten Vodafone in the race of add new subscribers, which is actually shocking. Along with Idea, Airtel too adds a record number of new subscribers as Jio’s growth rate has stagnated a bit, and Vodafone’s growth has actually become less.

Subscriber Growth: Idea, Airtel Add Record Number Of New Subscribers!
For the month of April, Idea and Airtel have collectively added 1 crore new subscribers. This stunning turnaround for both of these telcos has baffled analysts.
At the same time, Vodafone has lost 6.64 lakh subscribers!
In a statement, Cellular Association of India has revealed that for the month of April, Idea added around 55 lakh new subscribers, which takes their total subscriber base to 21.6 crores.
In the addition of new subscribers, Idea has beaten Airtel and Vodafone, along with Jio as well.
COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said,
“The growth seen in mobile subscribers this month is encouraging, and the industry is working daily to ensure that connectivity reaches the farthest corners of the country,”
Meanwhile, Vodafone is continuing to lose their subscriber base, at a rapid pace.
Out of 22 telecom circles, Vodafone has lost 6.6 lakh subscribers across 11 telecom circles. The circles from where Vodafone lost a maximum number of subscribers include Madhya Pradesh (2.42 lakh), followed by Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, UP West.
Overall, Airtel is at #1 nationally, with 30.8 crore subscribers, followed by Vodafone at 22 crores, followed closely by Idea at 21 crore users.
Jio has slipped to #4 position now.
Idea’s New Brand Identity Revealed!
Meanwhile Idea Cellular has revealed their new brand identity, and post-merger, they shall be called ‘Vodafone Idea Limited’.
Right now, the official brand identity of Idea is ‘Idea Cellular Limited’.
An extraordinary general meeting (EGM) has been called on June 26th for all board members to finalize the new brand name.
Kumar Mangalam Birla led Idea Cellular also seeks to raise Rs 15,000 crore for expanding and improving their services. The issue of Rs 15,000 crore funding would be also raised at the EGM.
As per branding experts, the brand name ‘Vodafone Idea Limited’ seems like a good idea, because of their existing market leadership.
While Idea Cellular has a solid branding in rural and Tier 2 and 3 cities, Vodafone has a good hold in urban and Tier 1 cities.
‘Vodafone Idea Limited’ compliments both the brands and induces a trust factor among telecom users.
Once the merger is complete, Vodafone Idea Ltd. will collectively hold 42% market share in terms of users, and 37% market share in terms of revenues.
