Samsung had been planning to launch a premium entry-level smartphone with some top midrange components referred to as the Galaxy S8 Lite. The upcoming smartphone is scheduled to launch today in China, and the device will now launch with an all-new name of Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition.
The South Korean tech giant aims to promote Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition in the mid-range premium segment combining affordability with premium looks. Samsung has already been dethroned in India by Xiaomi as the number one smartphone brand in the country, and the company is also struggling in the global markets due to immense competition from the Chinese manufacturers.

Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition – Everything You Need To Know
The launch event is scheduled to happen at the Jingdong Samsung headquarters in Beijing today.
Design & Build
The upcoming Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will come with a fingerprint sensor at the back beside the single rear camera. The smartphone will come in a unibody build with a dedicated physical Bixby button.
Full HD+ Infinity Display
The Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will come with a 5.8-inch Full HD+ Infinity Display in an 18.5:9 screen ratio with a screen resolution of 2280 × 1080 pixels. Samsung mostly uses its Infinity Displays for its flagship smartphones, but the Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will be the one of the first mid-range smartphone to get it.
Hardware & Storage
Under the hood, Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. The processor will couple with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. As per the reports, there will be no other storage variant.
Camera
In terms of optics, the smartphone will come with a single rear camera. At the back, the Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will house an 16 megapixel sensor. Up front, the smartphone will feature an 8 megapixel wide angle sensor.
Android Oreo
The Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will run the latest Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box preloaded with the all-new AI-powered Bixby and Samsung’s latest UI.
Battery
The Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will house in a 3,000mAh battery, enough to throw in a full day use on a single charge. The smartphone will come with Wireless charging support.
Variants
The leaked images show that the Samsung Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will come in two colours variants of shiny red and glossy black.
Price
The prices are not out yet, though the Samsung mid-range premium smartphone is expected to be priced around RMB 3,800 to 4,100 (Rs. 40,000 approximately).
Struggling Samsung
Samsung is struggling to hold up against the Chinese competition. The company has already lost its long-held spot in India to four-year-old Xiaomi. The company is facing immense competition from the Chinese manufacturers in the global markets as well.
The mid-range and entry-premium segment has always been a game-changer for the smartphone companies, as it helps to add volume and generate direct revenue. Samsung is facing a massive threat in the mid-range and budget category from affordable and well-manufactured Chinese smartphones.
Amidst the changing preferences of customers, Samsung had earlier promised to make a comeback and are working on a slew of affordable mid-range smartphones to take on the Chinese competition globally.
