Nokia 1 Will Be The First ‘Android Go’ Smartphone Launching In 2018!
The entry-level Android Go smartphone is slated for an early 2018 launch.
After the Nokia 9 leak, HMD Global is reportedly working on a new smartphone, Nokia 1, which will be a part of Google’s Android Go project. The company is also working on an advanced version of the Nokia 6 alongside the new phone.
The entry-level Android Go smartphone is slated for an early 2018 launch. As per a report, Russia will be the first country to get the smartphone in 2018, for a price of 5,999 Rubles (around Rs. 6,500/-). The Android Go project was launched specially for low-end smartphones used extensively in countries like India. So it is quite possible that India will be in the first wave of countries to get the Nokia 1.
Nokia 1: Expected Features & Specifications
The entry-level Android Go smartphone is expected to sport an HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
The device will sport 1GB of RAM with 8GB of onboard storage. The device will run the newly launched Android Go Orio edition for optimal performance.
Google has already announced lite versions of compatible applications. Android Go is designed to give a smooth performance with low-end hardware.
The processor is still unknown, and the company would probably use a budget Qualcomm processor. It is worth noting that both Qualcomm and MediaTek have announced their support for Android Go Oreo Edition.
At the time of announcing Android Go edition, Google had said that it is meant for devices with 512MB to 1GB of RAM. Google has officially confirmed that there would be a whole lot of Android Oreo Go Edition phones coming in early 2018.
Android Go Oreo Edition
The newly launched project from Google aims to support entry-level budget smartphones with optimised software, so low-specced hardware can offer better performance.
Along with Nokia, Huawei is also planning to launch their Android Go smartphone next year. The Android Go smartphone from Huawei is reportedly very similar to the Nokia 1 and is expected to be priced around $84 (Rs. 5000/-).
Currently, the most affordable smartphone from HMD Global is the Nokia 2, which was launched back in October. The recent launches of Redmi 5A and 10.or D have posed a serious challenge to the Nokia 2 Â in the budget segment.
Other Indian brands like Lava, Micromax, Intex are also expected to release their own Android Go Oreo Edition smartphones in early 2018.
The Android Go Advantage
Android Go smartphones will run the latest Android Oreo on entry-level budget smartphones. To begin with, the Android Go will come with apps which have been optimised to run on devices with low-end processors.
These apps are will be beneficial for boosting the market for low-cost budget smartphones. A budget smartphone like the Nokia 1 can offer a far better user experience when compared to an entry-level smartphone running regular Android.
Nokia 1 will probably be the first Android Go phone in the world. If it is priced right, it could be a game changer for HMD Global in the low-cost smartphone market, especially in India.
