Hyderabad Shining: Karbonn To Establish Rs 450 Cr Manufacturing Hub; TCS Sets Up Centre of Excellence in the city

Lately, Hyderabad has been in the limelight as new age entrepreneurs as well as IT czars from all over the country have chosen this city over others when it comes to launching new projects and establishing new campuses.

In continuation with the amazing growth story, here are two latest developments which have again made Hyderabad the most happening place for the Indian startup eco-system.

Rs 450 Crore Manufacturing Unit from Karbonn

Karbonn, which is slowly but gradually ramping up their production, has announced a new Rs 450 crore-manufacturing unit in Hyderabad. After Micromax and Celkon Mobile, Karbonn would be the third handset vendor to kickstart manufacturing in the city.

Karbonn, which clocked revenues of Rs 4000 crore during 2013-14 financial year, already has assembly line units in Bengaluru and Noida. Hyderabad plant would mark their first manufacturing unit in India. As of now, they import handsets from China, and assemble them before shipping. With their own manufacturing unit, they will be able to have more control over the specifications and quality.

Sudhir Hasija, Chairman of Karbonn mobiles, has already met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, and shared his vision. He later said that Karbonn is right now India’s 4th largest mobile vendor, and once this manufacturing unit is operational, it will create 2 million handsets a month. Sudhir is confident that this new manufacturing unit will help them catapult into the top 3 position in India.

As per information received as of now, Karbonn has tied-up with an unnamed Chinese manufacturer to provide technical assistance while establishing and running this manufacturing unit.

Centre of Excellence by TCS

Powered by a dedicated team of 200 software engineers, TCS has set-up a new Centre of Excellence hub in Hyderabad, which is situated inside their main campus. Covering 10,000 sq feet of area, this state of the art Centre of Excellence hub will focus primarily on the next generation technology solutions.

As per TCS officials, this Centre of Excellence will concentrate on creating futuristic products in the domain of semi-conductors, network space and gadgets.

Emerging communication platforms such as Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), 5G and Wireless LAN (WLAN) would be thoroughly researched and probed by this new team.

The press release from TCS said that Hyderabad can be the next location where breakthrough and disruptive innovations in the field of Man-Machine interface, Context-aware systems and Resource constrained device can be achieved.

Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad will co-ordinate and work with leading academic institutions of the world, open source communities and other research oriented organizations to come up with technological solutions, which can change the world.

Hyderabad, it seems is situation on the cusp of another technological and entrepreneurial revolution.
