Jet Airways Launches Barcoded Mobile Boarding Passes
Next time you travel with Jet Airways flight, you may not need a physical boarding pass at all. They have started testing mobile boarding passes, on pilot basis, on flights from Bengaluru Airport.
While web check-in is quite common among Indian flyers, one needs to either take a boarding pass print-out or take the physical boarding pass from Kiosks before a passenger does a security check. With this new barcoded mobile boarding pass, the need for having a physical one will be completely eliminated.
In short, you mobile will serve as boarding pass!
Here is how mobile boarding passes will work – The passenger will first need to check-in online and opt for mobile boarding pass. The mobile boarding pass can then be used to enter Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KGIA) and directly move to Security checkpoint where new boarding pass scanners have been installed. The passenger can clear the security check after their mobile boarding passes are successfully scanned!
These new mobile boarding passes are currently available only for flights from Bengaluru to Mumbai and Delhi, but will be extended to other flights as well depending on the response and feedback from the users.
Jet Airways chief executive Cramer Ball said in regards to this, “the initiative will greatly improve the on-ground guest experience during departure. If the city’s experience is good, the airline may extend this service across all Jet flights.”
Bengaluru airport MD GV Sanjay Reddy said, the mobile boarding pass trial is a process improvement with simplicity and convenience at its core and will have a direct impact on time saved and the overall passenger experience.
The mobile boarding passes have been designed in-house by Jet Airways and follow all IATA standards and requirements according to Jet Airways.
