Sony Acknowledges The Rise Of Selfies With Xperia C3
There were old days when my dad had Nokia 6600 with a VGA camera (or was it 1.3 MP). That was a rear camera and we clicked hundreds if not thousand photos with it.
Of course, then came the Mega Pixel era that started off with 2 MP. Compare this to the fact that once I bought a digital camera from Singapore that had a whopping 2 MP. I do not know where that camera is anymore because my Nexus 4 has an 8 MP camera.
These are all rear cameras though. With the rise of good mobile internet and video calling, front cameras started to show up here and there as well.
In the past few years though, another concept has taken wings that might have even overshadowed the use of front cameras for video chatting- Selfies!
Heck, it has become so popular that even Dictionaries have give it a status of an official English word!
Taking a photo of yourself might have started off with rear camera but as the front cameras improved in the pixel department and camera quality, more and more people are shifting to the front cameras as it provides a view on the screen of the actual picture being taken. Rear cameras (for selfies) are used only with a mirror now.
The prime reason for this reason is that with the front camera, people have the freedom to adjust the camera to get the best picture without making second guesses as the screen acts as the perfect view finder.
Capitalizing on people’s zeal for taking selfies, Sony has launched a new phone that focuses on this aspect of the phone best. While most front cameras are still only 2 MP, Sony has notched it up to 5 MP “selfie-friendly” front camera.
This means the front camera can take as good photos as the rear camera of a mid-segment smartphone two years back.
Adding to it, Sony has also added an LED flash to the front camera for the low light situations. This practically makes it a complete camera for almost all situations where the rear can be used. Also, selfie apps have been added to the phone for people to take advantage of the front camera.
According to Calum Macdougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications- “Xperia C3 is a unique new smartphone from Sony, created to offer the ultimate social sharing experience with a new powerful ‘PROselfie cam’. It also presents a combination of the best of Sony, with leading digital imaging technology and brilliant specs and performance all for a mid-range price.”
Other features of the phone are mid-range and pricing should be around Rs. 20000 though after Xiaomi’s launch of Mi 3, it might have to reduce the price to compete in the market.

- 5.5” HD Display

Will this be the newest trend that will grip other mobile manufacturers as well? What do you think?
