Within a short span of one year, there has been a significant upwards shift in India when it comes to the percentage of women engaging in freelancing jobs.
Rise in Gig Economy Interest and Women Job Opportunities
As per a recent report, the number has doubled to 8% in February 2024 as compared to 4% in February 2023. Conducted by talent management platform foundit (formerly Monster jobs), this report highlights the increase in the numbers of people wanting to work in gig economy and freelancing industry, which is primarily driven by convenience that it offers to its participants.
As compared to February last year, data reveals that there is a significant surge of 56% in the job opportunities for women candidates in February of this year compared to the same month last year.
Sekhar Garisa, CEO of foundit, emphasized the crucial role played by female workers in a company’s success. He further highlighted their hard-working and creative traits. Contributing to the promotion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, female leaders often exhibit transformational leadership qualities said Garisa.
Women’s Opportunities and Leadership Trends
The reports further deep dives into the sector-wise distribution of opportunities for women. With 36%, the IT/Computers-Software sector leads the way. The close second with 24% is the Recruitment/Staffing/RPO sector with 24 percent, and third with 23% is the BFSI sector.
The women participation has shown significant growth in the major metro cities of the nation which include the likes of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune.
Notably, there has been a noteworthy increase in leadership opportunities for women as there are 9%. This further signals a positive trend when it comes to creating more and more leadership roles as well as fostering diversity.
