Truecaller has rolled out a new UPI-based identity verification feature for its Android Premium users in India, offering them the opportunity to verify their profiles and earn a “Verified Badge.” This new feature is designed to increase trust and authenticity in digital communication by allowing users to authenticate their identities using the government-backed Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

UPI-Based Caller Verification Introduced By Truecaller

How Does the Verification Work?

Through the UPI system, users can verify their correct names and authenticate their profiles, similar to identity verification methods used by major financial institutions. By initiating the process themselves, users can choose the name they wish to display and confirm their identity using the UPI method. This move aims to provide users with a secure way to control their digital footprint.

What the Verified Badge Offers

According to Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Chief Product Officer and Managing Director of India at Truecaller, the new Verified Badge is in response to feedback from Premium users seeking a more secure and trustworthy way to establish their identities. He highlighted that the integration of UPI-based verification is a widely accepted method, giving users a reliable way to authenticate their identities. “We believe this is a significant step forward in our vision of making communication safer for everyone,” Jhunjhunwala said.

Global Expansion and Future Plans

While the Verified Badge feature is currently available only in India, Truecaller plans to roll out this service in other countries as part of its global expansion strategy. The company sees this as a game-changer in the world of digital communication, providing a level of trust comparable to traditional identity verification systems.

Enhancing Security in Digital Communication

As digital communication becomes more central to everyday interactions, Truecaller’s Verified Badge is expected to set a new standard for digital identity verification. By offering users the credibility of a verified profile, this feature mirrors the security and reliability typically associated with formal identification methods, making digital interactions more secure and trustworthy.

With this new feature, Truecaller aims to bolster its position as a trusted platform for digital communication, reinforcing its commitment to providing top-tier services and helping users confidently control their digital identities.
