Major Expressway Project Gets Green Signal
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the construction of the ambitious Vindhya Expressway, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity in the state’s eastern and south-eastern regions. Along with the main corridor, the Cabinet also approved the Vindhya–Purvanchal Link Expressway, strengthening the state’s rapidly expanding expressway network.
Once completed, Uttar Pradesh will have one of the country’s most extensive expressway systems, improving road connectivity between key regions and neighbouring states.
333-Km Six-Lane Expressway Planned
The Vindhya Expressway will be a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor stretching approximately 333 kilometres from Prayagraj to Sonbhadra. It will pass through important districts including Prayagraj, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra, significantly reducing travel time across the Vindhya region.
The expressway is also planned with future expansion potential to accommodate increasing traffic demand.
Link Expressway To Connect Purvanchal Corridor
The Cabinet has also approved a 117-km Vindhya–Purvanchal Link Expressway connecting Mirzapur to Ghazipur via Chandauli. This corridor will seamlessly connect the Vindhya Expressway with the Purvanchal Expressway, creating faster east-west connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.
The integrated network is expected to improve movement of passengers, freight and industrial goods throughout the region.
Economic Growth And Better Connectivity
The new expressways are expected to stimulate industrial development, logistics, tourism and investment in districts that have traditionally witnessed slower infrastructure growth. They will also improve connectivity with the Ganga Expressway and strengthen road links towards Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Construction To Be Completed In Three Years
The state government has targeted completion of both expressway projects within three years. Once operational, they are expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and provide a significant boost to regional trade and connectivity.
