Google’s flagship developer conference, I/O 2025, held on May 20, was all about artificial intelligence. The company’s keynote event introduced transformative updates across AI, Search, XR, and communication technologies. Here’s a detailed look at the most exciting announcements.

Gemini App Gets Real-Time AI Upgrades

Google’s Gemini AI assistant is getting a massive boost. The newly enhanced Gemini Live will begin rolling out this week with real-time camera and screen-sharing capabilities. Users can interact with Gemini using their phone camera or what’s on their screen for contextual responses.

The app will also integrate more deeply with Google’s ecosystem—enabling users to set reminders, pull directions from Maps, and handle everyday tasks through natural conversations. A new Deep Research mode will allow file and image uploads for more accurate and comprehensive answers.

Imagen 4 and Veo 3 Raise the Bar for Generative AI

Google unveiled Imagen 4, a powerful text-to-image model that now renders images with high detail and text clarity. Its visual quality marks a leap in realism and usability for content creators.

Veo 3, Google’s new text-to-video model, was also showcased. It can generate smooth motion videos with audio soundtracks that align with the visual content, making it ideal for cinematic AI storytelling.

AI Mode Transforms Search Experience

Search is evolving into a fully AI-powered experience. AI Mode now offers rich, interactive results, personalized summaries, and visualizations like graphs for topics such as finance or sports.

Shopping will also benefit, with AI helping users virtually “try on” clothes. Personalization will improve with deeper integration into services like Gmail, allowing Search to offer more context-aware content.

Android XR Brings Smart Glasses to Life

Google introduced Android XR, its new platform for extended reality. In partnership with eyewear brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, Android XR powers smart glasses capable of messaging, navigation, and real-time translation using built-in displays.

Agentic AI and Project Mariner

One of the most futuristic announcements was agentic AI. Project Mariner demonstrated how Gemini could handle multi-step tasks like ticket booking or purchases entirely on behalf of the user—no clicks required. An upcoming Agent Mode in the Gemini app will offer real-time data fetching and summarization to simplify daily workflows.

Beam: The Future of 3D Video Calls

Google’s new Beam technology aims to revolutionize virtual communication. Using a six-camera array and light field display, Beam creates life-like 3D video calls. In partnership with Zoom and HP, Beam is expected to debut in enterprise environments soon.

Google I/O 2025 made one thing clear: the future is agentic, immersive, and AI-powered.
