Would you like to pursue a career as a social media influencer? In the near future, an Irish university is set to offer a degree program that can help you realize this ambition. Commencing in September of the following year, South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow, Ireland, is preparing to launch a Bachelor of Arts program centered on content creation and social media, as documented by the BBC.
SETU’s Comprehensive Curriculum for Thriving in the Expanding Global Influencer Market
The curriculum comprises an extensive array of courses, including creative video production, celebrity studies, psychology, data analytics, podcasting, and practical hands-on experience, all of which are detailed on the university’s official website. The program’s description underscores its thoroughness, with a specific focus on preparing students with the skills necessary to excel in the digital landscape.
SETU aims to prepare students with the necessary tools to excel in an era when the global influencer market is rapidly expanding. According to SETU, experts estimate the current global influencer market to be worth approximately $21 billion. The university recognizes the significance of activities like influencing, social media marketing, digital content creation, and digital strategizing in connecting people and ideas, considering them not only important for business but also socially vital.
SETU’s Innovative Program: Navigating the Digital Influencer Landscape and Beyond
Eleanor O’Leary, the program’s director, notes that both students and employers are increasingly showing interest in this field. She explains that while it draws from existing media, PR, and marketing skills, this area has its unique set of skills, making it a distinctive field of study.
One of the intriguing courses offered in this program is crisis management. This course will educate students on handling critical and unexpected situations, especially in the context of today’s fast-paced news dissemination via social media. The course will cover the importance of social media strategies that include crisis management plans, the examination of the crisis management lifecycle, identification of crisis management tools used by managers in organizations and communities facing crises, and the development of crisis management plans incorporating recommended responses and mitigation strategies, along with communication strategies to address public relations issues.
Upon completing the degree program, graduates will be qualified for a variety of roles in content creation, writing, journalism, communications, and more, according to the university. Applications for the program are set to open in November, as reported by the BBC.
Established in May 2022, SETU comprises 18,000 students and over 1,600 staff members, with campuses in Carlow, Waterford, and Wexford, as described by Veronica Campbell, the school’s president, via SETU’s website.
