Employee’s Protest Draws Attention
A workplace dispute involving Tech Mahindra and a Hyderabad-based employee has sparked a wider debate around workplace culture, employee welfare and grievance redressal. Software engineer R Bhavana staged a protest outside the company’s Hyderabad office, alleging unfair treatment, workplace harassment and termination-related issues.

Her allegations gained significant attention after videos and posts about the protest circulated on social media. The controversy has since developed into a dispute involving sharply different accounts from the employee and the company.
Allegations of Workplace Harassment
Bhavana has alleged that her difficulties began after she suffered an injury and subsequently took medical leave. According to reports, she claimed that she was repeatedly asked to return to work despite her health concerns.
She also alleged receiving communications warning of disciplinary action if she did not report to work, along with concerns about transportation arrangements and workplace monitoring. Another issue raised by her involved the handling of a family medical emergency involving her daughter.
Bhavana has claimed that she was eventually terminated in violation of labour laws and has filed a police complaint alleging workplace harassment and unlawful termination.
Tech Mahindra Rejects Termination Claim
Tech Mahindra has disputed the central allegation that Bhavana was terminated. The company has said she remains an active employee and that her July salary was processed normally.
According to the company, Bhavana joined its Hyderabad office on March 26, 2026, and raised concerns about an alleged termination on July 23. The company said she was informed that her employment continued.
Tech Mahindra acknowledged that a communication citing “abandonment of services” had been issued on July 22, but maintained that the separation was never implemented.
The company also said Bhavana had taken 27 working days of leave between joining the organisation and July 22, including planned and unplanned leave, and that she had been asked to report to work and provide supporting medical documentation.
Social Media Turns Dispute Into Public Debate
The dispute gained momentum after the employee’s allegations were amplified through social media. Posts described her protest and highlighted demands relating to employee rights, notice periods, pending allowances and protection against what she described as arbitrary termination.
Some additional claims circulating online have not been independently verified. Nevertheless, the social media campaign has brought significant public attention to the case and triggered broader conversations about how large companies handle employee grievances.
Questions Around Corporate Grievance Mechanisms
The episode highlights a larger issue facing India’s corporate sector: how effectively employees can raise concerns when disputes arise over medical leave, attendance, disciplinary action or termination.
Tech Mahindra has maintained that internal grievance mechanisms were available to the employee and that the public allegations do not present the complete sequence of events.
The conflicting accounts mean that the precise circumstances surrounding the dispute remain contested.
A Broader Workplace Culture Debate
Beyond the individual case, the controversy has renewed discussions around workplace empathy, employee protections and the importance of transparent grievance-resolution processes.
For technology companies employing thousands of professionals, workplace policies need to balance business requirements with employees’ personal and medical circumstances. The increasing use of social media also means that unresolved workplace disputes can quickly become public and attract widespread scrutiny.
As the matter continues to unfold, the focus is likely to remain on whether the dispute can be resolved through formal channels and whether the competing claims can be independently established.
Summary
A protest by Hyderabad-based Tech Mahindra employee R Bhavana has triggered debate over workplace harassment, medical leave, termination and grievance handling. Bhavana has alleged unfair treatment and unlawful termination, while Tech Mahindra maintains that she remains an active employee and that her separation was never implemented. The conflicting accounts have placed the company’s workplace practices under public scrutiny.
