TCS Bets Big on India’s Booming GCC Market
India’s largest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has launched a dedicated business unit to help multinational corporations establish and operate Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The new unit, called Global Value & Innovation Centres (GVIC), will focus on helping companies build “AI-native GCCs” and transform existing centres into innovation-driven hubs.

The move comes as global companies increasingly shift from traditional outsourcing models to in-house technology, operations, and innovation centres. India has emerged as the world’s largest GCC hub, hosting more than 2,100 centres that employ approximately 2.36 million professionals and generate nearly $100 billion in revenue.
What the New TCS Unit Will Do
The newly formed GVIC business unit will provide end-to-end services covering GCC strategy, setup, operations, talent management, and AI-led transformation. TCS says the offering is designed to help enterprises accelerate the creation of next-generation capability centres powered by artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.
Soumen Roy, previously TCS’s country head for Canada, has been appointed to lead the business unit and will report directly to CEO K. Krithivasan.
Why GCCs Are Becoming Strategic Assets
Global Capability Centres were once primarily established to reduce costs, but their role has evolved significantly. Today, multinational companies use GCCs to manage intellectual property, develop AI solutions, drive product innovation, and oversee critical business functions. Industry experts say companies increasingly prefer GCCs because they offer greater control over proprietary data, technology, and talent.
As AI becomes central to business operations, enterprises are looking for partners that can help them build AI-ready infrastructure and operating models. This trend has created a new growth opportunity for IT services providers.
Competition Intensifies Among IT Giants
TCS is not alone in targeting the GCC opportunity. Major technology services companies including Infosys, HCLTech, and Cognizant have also strengthened their GCC-focused offerings in recent months. Industry observers view GCCs as one of the fastest-growing segments of India’s technology sector and a key source of future AI transformation projects.
A Growing Opportunity for India
The launch of TCS’s dedicated GCC business unit highlights the strategic importance of India’s expanding capability centre ecosystem. As multinational corporations continue to invest in AI, digital transformation, and innovation-led operations, demand for GCC expertise is expected to grow rapidly, creating new opportunities for technology firms and skilled professionals alike.
Summary: TCS has launched the Global Value & Innovation Centres (GVIC) unit to help multinational companies establish and manage AI-native Global Capability Centres. The move reflects the rapid growth of India’s GCC ecosystem, which has become a major hub for innovation, AI development, and enterprise operations. TCS aims to provide end-to-end services as global firms increasingly invest in capability centres across India.
