We have read about the tip where we put our phone in a bag of rice if it gets wet – however, Apple has recommended not to do this if a phone gets wet.
Instead, Apple has released updated instructions on what to do if your iPhone gets wet.
Read on to find out Apple’s recommendations!
Apple’s Guidelines If Your Phone Gets Wet
While it’s customary to place wet phones in raw rice to absorb moisture, Apple discourages this practice.
The reason behind Apple’s alert to users is the possibility that tiny rice grains lodged in the phone’s ports could cause additional harm. It is also not recommended to insert foreign objects into the ports, such as paper towels or cotton swabs.
Additionally, using blow dryers or other external heat sources to dry the phone is also not recommended.
Moreover, safer options have been offered by Apple’s revised instructions for handling a wet iPhone:
- When you plug in your iPhone, if a “Liquid Detected” alert shows, unplug the cable from both ends right away.
- Excess liquid can be released by gently tapping the phone against your palm while the port is facing downward.
- Before attempting to charge the phone, store it for at least half an hour after tapping in a dry place with airflow.
- If the liquid detection alert resurfaces, wait up to 24 hours for the phone to completely dry out before attempting to charge it once more.
- Before looking into repairs, unplug and reinstall the cable and adapter if the phone is still not charging.
iPhone Drop Test
If an iPhone is submerged in water, it might still survive and work as intended. An iPhone 6 drop test video demonstrated the device’s functionality even after it was submerged in water. Water resistance testing was also successful for the iPhone 11 Pro, demonstrating its robustness.
Apple Hints At Massive AI-Powered Features In iPhones, MacBook
We recently reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the tech giant is readying new generative AI capabilities for launch across its software platforms iOS, iPadOS and macOS later this year.
Through careful phrasing avoiding premature announcements, Cook strongly hinted Apple approaching competitive ability around next generation AI despite its historical secrecy. Analysts expect Apple to harness foundational AI strengths towards consumer-centric solutions complementing device strengths given its control over the value chain.
