Ola Founder Launches Krutrim AI That Is Bigger Than ChatGPT: 2 Trillion Tokens, 20 Indian Languages & More!

A Cultural and Economic Paradigm Shift

Breaking Language Barriers and Fostering Cultural Expression

The hybrid event, streamed live on YouTube, showcased Krutrim as a pioneering AI model with the capability to comprehend 20 Indian languages and generate content in 10 Indian languages, including Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Odiya. Aggarwal asserted the necessity for India to emerge as a global leader in AI, pointing out the limitations of current AI models, particularly in capturing the richness of India’s multicultural and multilingual heritage.

Aggarwal envisions Krutrim as more than just a technological advancement; he sees it as a tool for cultural expression, steering away from assimilation into a singular global paradigm. The CEO believes that an AI-first economy will propel India’s technology industry onto a nonlinear trajectory, transforming it into a Global Knowledge Centre, and positioning the country as a leader in scientific discovery. With the introduction of Krutrim, Ola sets the stage for a potential revolution in both the economic and cultural landscapes of India.

Unveiling Krutrim: India’s Massive Language Model

Transformative Potential and Future Developments

Krutrim, a large language model (LLM), boasts training on over 2 trillion tokens—subwords used in conversations. During a live demonstration, Aggarwal showcased Krutrim’s capabilities, highlighting its proficiency in generating stories, poems, and more in multiple Indian languages. While acknowledging that Krutrim is still in its early stages of development, Ravi Jain, Ola’s CMO, emphasized the model’s innovative architecture and extensive training data, positioning it to power diverse database applications effectively.

Ola plans to launch Krutrim Pro in the next quarter, presenting a larger multimodal AI model with enhanced problem-solving and task execution capabilities. Aggarwal’s persistent optimism about AI’s potential for cultural assimilation underscores the importance of India owning its AI solutions, especially considering the prevalent use of non-Indian data in popular language models. The development team asserts that Krutrim surpasses even GPT-4 in its support for Indic languages, signaling a significant leap in India’s AI capabilities.
