Millions of LPG consumers across India have been urged to complete their electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification before June 30, as failure to do so could lead to disruptions in subsidy benefits and other LPG-related services from July 1.

The advisory affects customers of Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas, particularly beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), who receive government subsidies on domestic LPG cylinders.

Why LPG Customers Are Being Asked to Complete e-KYC

The government and oil marketing companies have been running a nationwide e-KYC drive to eliminate duplicate and inactive LPG connections and ensure that subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries.

Consumers who have not yet completed Aadhaar-based verification have been advised to do so through official mobile applications, distributors or LPG delivery personnel. The process is free and can be completed within minutes using face authentication or OTP-based verification.

Subsidy Benefits Could Be Affected

While reports have suggested that LPG cylinder supplies could stop from July 1, the more immediate concern is the continuation of subsidy benefits.

Industry advisories indicate that customers with pending e-KYC may face interruptions in receiving Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidies. This is particularly important for PMUY beneficiaries, who currently receive targeted LPG support from the government.

For regular consumers who do not receive substantial subsidies, the impact may be less significant, although completing e-KYC remains mandatory for maintaining updated records.

PNG Policy Adds Another Layer of Change

The LPG sector is also witnessing policy changes related to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Under recent government directives, households with access to PNG infrastructure are being encouraged to switch from LPG cylinders.

Customers who adopt PNG may be required to surrender their LPG connections within a specified period. The policy aims to reduce dependence on cylinder distribution and promote cleaner fuel alternatives in urban areas.

No Nationwide LPG Ban Yet

Despite widespread social media rumours, there is currently no official order stating that all LPG connections will be disconnected after June 30. Domestic LPG supplies from Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas are expected to continue normally for eligible customers.

However, consumers who have not completed mandatory verification procedures or who are affected by PNG migration policies may face service-related complications in the coming months.

Consumers Advised to Act Quickly

With the June 30 deadline approaching, LPG users are being encouraged to verify their account status and complete e-KYC through official channels. Doing so will help ensure uninterrupted access to LPG services and any applicable subsidy benefits.

Summary

Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas customers have been advised to complete their e-KYC before June 30 to avoid disruptions in subsidy benefits and LPG services. While reports of a nationwide LPG shutdown are inaccurate, pending verification could affect eligible consumers, especially PMUY beneficiaries. The government is also pushing PNG adoption in areas where pipeline infrastructure is available.
