Enforcing pollution laws globally often involves hefty fines or vehicle seizures. To tackle this, a novel system is in development, set to automatically levy fines at petrol stations for vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
Penalties Up to Rs 10,000
Driving without a valid PUC certificate could incur fines of up to ₹10,000. Despite the certificate’s importance, many drivers overlook its renewal, leading to violations. Now, vehicles lacking an up-to-date certificate risk being blacklisted from registration.
Vigilance at Petrol Pumps
State-of-the-art cameras stationed at petrol pumps will track vehicle registration numbers. Any vehicle refueling will be scrutinized, with the system checking for valid pollution certificates. Upon detecting an expired certificate, the system will promptly issue a fine to the driver’s phone.
Time for Renewal
Drivers will receive timely reminders to renew their certificates by the following day or evening. A brief window will be provided for drivers to update their pollution certifications. Failure to renew on time will result in a direct ₹10,000 fine sent to the driver’s phone.
Promoting Compliance and Safety
This innovative system aims to streamline pollution law enforcement, offering a grace period before imposing fines. By fostering compliance and contributing to safer roads, proactive monitoring holds promise for environmental protection and public welfare.
