Maruti Suzuki is reportedly preparing a new compact seven-seater for India, expected to be called the Solio. If launched as anticipated, it would sit between the WagonR and Ertiga in the company’s lineup and offer families a lower-cost way to get three rows of seats.
The Solio is already sold in Japan as a five-seater. Reports suggest Maruti is developing a longer, India-specific version with seven seats. The company has not officially confirmed the model, its price or its launch date.

Expected to Cost Less Than the Ertiga
The new MPV is expected to start at around ₹8 lakh on-road in Mumbai, roughly ₹2 lakh below the Ertiga’s reported starting price in the city. That would make it Maruti’s most affordable seven-seater, though the final price will depend on the version and equipment offered.
The compact MPV is expected to measure under four metres in length. Its boxy, tall design could resemble an enlarged WagonR, with a layout intended to make the most of its small footprint.
Third Row May Suit Children Best
The Japan-spec Solio measures 3,810 mm long, 1,645 mm wide and 1,745 mm tall, with a 2,480 mm wheelbase. The Indian seven-seater is expected to remain under four metres, so space in the third row may be limited for adults on longer journeys.
A powered sliding rear door is also being considered. If offered, it could make getting in and out easier in tight parking spaces.
Expected Engine and Features
The Solio is likely to use a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine similar to the unit in the Swift and Dzire, producing around 80 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. A CNG version is also expected, while a series-hybrid option could be introduced later.
To keep costs down, Maruti may limit premium equipment. A touchscreen with wireless connectivity is expected, while features available on the Japanese model—such as a 360-degree camera and advanced driver assistance systems—may not make it to the Indian version.
Launch Timeline Remains Unconfirmed
Maruti has not announced a launch date. Current reports point to a possible arrival by late 2027 or early 2028, though some suggest it could be later.
Until the company confirms the model and specifications, its price, equipment and launch schedule should be treated as expected details rather than final announcements.
