India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is stepping into the electric era with the e-Vitara, its first all-electric SUV. First unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025, the e-Vitara marks a strategic pivot toward sustainable transportation and reinforces India’s growing commitment to green mobility.
From Hansalpur To The World
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat earlier this year, kicking off localized production of hybrid battery electrodes — a major milestone in India’s EV supply chain. During the same event, the Prime Minister also flagged off exports of the e-Vitara, establishing India as a credible global exporter of electric vehicles.
Since September 1, Maruti Suzuki has shipped over 2,900 units of the e-Vitara to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, and Norway, underscoring the vehicle’s international appeal and India’s rising profile in the global EV market.
Power, Range, And Performance
The e-Vitara is a compact electric SUV (4,275mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,640mm tall) featuring a 3-in-1 drive system that integrates the motor, inverter, and transmission for enhanced efficiency. Two battery options are available — a 49kWh pack (144hp) and a 61kWh pack (174hp) with an optional AWD variant offering a combined 184hp and 300Nm torque.
The top variant boasts a range exceeding 500km per charge, placing it among India’s longest-range EVs.
Premium Interiors And Smart Features
Inside, the e-Vitara delivers a luxury experience with a 10.25-inch digital driver display, 10.1-inch infotainment system, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a Harman sound system. Safety is equally prioritized with seven airbags, all-disc brakes, Level-2 ADAS, and over 50% high-tensile steel structure.
Building India’s EV Ecosystem
To promote EV adoption, Maruti Suzuki will roll out public fast-charging stations in 100 cities, ensure charging every 5–10 km, and open 1,500 EV-ready workshops across 1,000+ cities. Every e-Vitara will also include a smart home charger and installation support — reaffirming the company’s vision for a cleaner, connected, and convenient electric future.
