According to a CNN report, however, a structure in Gujarat’s Surat that will contain a diamond trade centre has suddenly seized that distinction. 90 per cent of the diamonds in the world are cut in Surat, which is referred to be the gem capital of the world. Including cutters, polishers, and merchants, the recently built Surat Diamond Bourse would be a “one-stop destination” for more than 65,000 diamond professionals.

Reportedly, the vast 15-story skyscraper occupies 35 acres of land, which is divided among nine rectangular buildings. All these structures are interconnected by a central spine. The construction company responsible for this monumental facility asserts that it encompasses a floor area exceeding 7.1 million square feet.
The official inauguration of the building is scheduled for November of this year, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the ceremony. The construction of the structure took four years to complete. Additionally, the property features a parking area spanning 20 lakh square feet and a leisure zone, as stated on the SDB website.

The organization is a non-profit entity supported by SDB Diamond Bourse, a company established to foster the growth and advancement of the Diamond Bourse in Surat, Gujarat. It operates under the provisions of section 8 of the Companies Act of 2013. Mahesh Gadhavi, the CEO of the project, explained to CNN that the new complex will eliminate the need for thousands of individuals to frequently travel to Mumbai by train for business purposes.
After conducting a global design competition, the renowned Indian architectural firm Morphogenesis was entrusted with creating the building. Mr. Gadhavi clarified to CNN that the objective of the competition was not to surpass the Pentagon in size; rather, the project’s scale was determined based on market demand. He further mentioned that all the office spaces had already been acquired by diamond businesses even before the construction commenced.
