To ease traffic at Pune Junction, the Pune Railway Division is transforming Hadapsar station into a complete satellite terminal.
The change was brought about by the fact that Pune Junction now sees some of the most train traffic in the area.
Hadapsar Station to Become Full Satellite Terminal to Decongest Pune Junction
As infrastructure improvements continue, more long-distance trains are anticipated to begin service from Hadapsar.
The Gati-Shakti unit of the Pune division is responsible for carrying out this renovation, which is a component of Indian Railways‘ “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.”
The estimated cost of the redevelopment project is ₹135 crore.
The Up and Down platforms will be extended to 600 meters as part of the planned improvements to make room for 24-coach trains.
A common Up and Down passenger coach line is being created from the current Up goods line.
On the station’s up side, a new goods line will be installed.
In addition, a new station building will be built, the circulating area will be improved, and parking and water supply systems will be installed.
Platforms 1, 2, and 3 have already been extended to accommodate 24-coach trains, among other tasks.
₹11.69 Crore Spent to Upgrade Passenger Amenities at Hadapsar Station
A total of ₹11.69 crore has been spent on passenger amenities.
These facilities include clean drinking water, digital displays, improved seating, and contemporary waiting areas.
Hadapsar station is being developed to provide a “airport-like experience,” including elevators, escalators, a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge, a roof plaza, waiting areas, and retiring rooms, according to a railway official.
The Railway Police Force (RPF) outpost and the old railway staff quarters have been demolished to make room for wider station access roads.
Connectivity problems persist despite development initiatives, especially with regard to public transportation access to Hadapsar.
Hadapsar lacks reliable last-mile connectivity options, in contrast to Pune Junction, which is conveniently located.
A daily commuter from Magarpatta named Sneha Kulkarni observed that the PMPML bus service was subpar, that there was no shared transportation, and that drivers were reluctant to provide fair pricing or short rides.
She added that during rush hour, the approach road gets clogged, which makes it challenging for older drivers and people carrying bags.
To enhance transportation connections to Hadapsar station, authorities are collaborating with regional organizations.
After it opens, Hadapsar station should relieve traffic at Pune Junction and provide more convenient service to eastern Pune communities like Magarpatta, Amanora, and Hadapsar.
The redevelopment is regarded as a significant turning point in Pune’s urban transportation development and is anticipated to be finished by early 2026.
