The completion of the “Missing Link” tunnel for the Pune-Mumbai Expressway represents a significant project milestone.
Because the nearby cable-stayed bridge in Tiger Valley is still under construction, the expressway’s full opening is five months behind schedule.
Tunnel Milestone Reached on Pune-Mumbai Expressway; Completion Delayed to November 2025
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has verified that the 13-kilometer tunnel is finished and operational.
Unfavorable weather conditions in the valley, such as high winds and a lot of rain, are to blame for the delay in bridge construction.
The superstructure of the bridge is complete, but the support cable installation is still incomplete.
The weather has caused significant delays in the installation of the 132-foot-high bridge.
The project’s initial completion date was August 25, 2025.
The deadline has been rescheduled for November 25, 2025.
‘Missing Link’ to Cut Pune-Mumbai Travel Time by 25 Minutes Upon Completion
The “Missing Link,” when finished, will cut the travel time between Pune and Mumbai by twenty-five minutes.
Additionally, it will make travel safer by removing the ghat section’s sharp curves.
The project’s goal is to drastically lessen the current expressway’s traffic congestion.
MSRDC officials reaffirmed that although the tunnel is complete, the weather still presents difficulties for the bridge’s completion.
The project is expected to cost ₹6,695 crore in total.
It is anticipated that the improved motorway will promote economic growth and improve regional connectivity.
There are two packages for the Missing Link project:
- Two eight-lane tunnels (1.75 km and 8.92 km long) are part of Package I.
- Two eight-lane viaducts (790 m and 650 m long) are part of Package-II.
The alignment was approved and the project started after MSRDC established a technical advisory committee to examine the detailed project report (DPR).
