A report by Blind, an anonymous forum for tech employees, said that Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon and Meta pay the highest to engineers all across the world.
The report compiled data based on self-reported compensation packages from Blind users from January 2022 to August 2023.
Software engineers’ pay
Google and Meta pay the highest to software employees as compared to their peers in Big Tech.
Apple and Microsoft pay the least to their entry-level engineers.
Business Insider recently revealed that software engineers were the highest-paid professionals at Google with a maximum base salary of $718,000 (approx Rs 64,52,000) in 2022.
The study further said that promotions at Amazon took longer than its peers while its salary ranges for engineers are the widest.
It also said, “Meta engineers appear to level up the fastest and have some of the highest pay.”
Apple
Apple’s total compensation might be less competitive than the other companies.
However, its job levels and pay bands are “consistent and fair”.
The highest-paid person in the second quarter 2022 is a senior director who was offered $415,000.
Google has one of the most balanced pay bands in the industry.
This means it’s rare for someone at a lower job level to get paid more than someone at a higher level.
Software engineers take up the top spot for base salary, maximum equity, and bonuses here.
A software engineer was offered $325,000, and a senior vice president recently took in an annual salary of $1,000,000, according to visa application data.
Amazon
The most senior software development engineers can make nearly $300,000, and senior software development managers can make up to $340,000.
Of late it has resumed hiring for technical and business talent to support its e-commerce and dominant cloud-computing businesses.
Cloud software engineers here can make over $260,000.
Microsoft
Total compensation for software engineers at Microsoft is lower than their peers across the board up until staff software engineer.
However it has several levels for engineers that give it more flexibility when it comes to promotions.
