Summers is here! This one’s for those who are planning to plan to new air conditioner but wondering on what to do with the old one, as selling it off won’t get you much in return.
An exchange program for used air conditioners has been launched by the e-commerce giant Flipkart. Through this, the users shall be able to exchange their old, used AC on the ecommerce platform.
This program, as per the Ecommerce-giant, will apply to all kinds of air conditioners and irrespective of where one purchased the AC from, one shall be able to exchange it using the AC service. This shall be rolled out across Flipkart’s serviceable pin codes in the country.
Flipkart’s AC Exchange Programme
- In order to avail exchange value, customers will have to provide the details of the old AC.
- Old AC will be uninstalled free of cost (for a limited period) by the trained technician
- The delivery agent will in turn verify the uninstalled unit at the doorstep
- If all goes well and checks match, the new AC will be delivered and the old AC will be picked up.
Flipkart Aims to Contribute to Circular Economy
Speaking on the growing yet unorganized and difficult to navigate market of old ACs as well as the new AC Exchange program, Adarsh Menon, SVP and Head of New Businesses, Flipkart said that “Over the years, there has been an ever-growing market for re-selling air conditioners which is highly unorganized and difficult to navigate. Through the AC Exchange Program on Flipkart, we aim to simplify this process and address nuanced pain points such as the uninstallation of old air conditioners to offer an end-to-end solution that combines the best value for the product, convenience, and discoverability. At Flipkart Group, it is our continuous endeavour to bring innovative tech-enabled solutions and enable reusability and responsible recycling which are indispensable in creating a sustainable economy.”
There is a high generation of scrap in the nation due to the growing usage of air conditioners in the country.
The imprudent disposal of old AC generates waste that leads to the contamination of soil, water and air. This is the main reason why the government is forcing electronics manufacturers to focus on collecting end of cycle electronics and recycling them.
Flipkart, through this initiative, wants to contribute towards a circular economy and in order to ensure the safe and responsible disposal of scrap generated, the ecommerce giant has partnered with certified e-waste recycling companies.
