Recently we interacted with Mr. Mayank Singh , Co- founder of Campus 365, and asked him about a new AI Detector Software launched by their edu-tech startup.

[Exclusive Interview] This Software By Campus 365 Can Detect If Your Content Is AI-Generated Or Not | How It Works?

Here are the interview highlights:

1- How does this AI detector software work ? Will it provide accurate results ?

The AI detector feature in Campus 365 is designed to help educators determine if content, assignments, or online examinations have been completed with the assistance of AI. While I don’t have specific information about Campus 365’s AI detector, I can provide a general overview of how AI detectors typically work and their potential accuracy.

Campus 365’s AI detector work by analyzing text patterns and linguistic characteristics to differentiate between human-generated content and content generated by AI. We look for several indicators, such as:

  1. Unusual patterns in sentence structure and vocabulary use
  2. Overuse of certain phrases or words that are common in AI-generated text
  3. Inconsistencies in the flow of ideas or arguments
  4. Excessive use of filler content or irrelevant information
  5. Lack of coherence, depth, or context in the text

The accuracy of the Campus 365’s AI detector feature depends on multiple factors, including the quality and sophistication of the underlying algorithms, the dataset it was trained on, and the ability to adapt to new AI-generated content. As AI models evolve and improve, AI detectors need to be constantly updated to stay effective. While AI detectors may not be 100% accurate in every instance, they can provide a useful tool for educators to flag potential instances of AI-generated content.

2- Will this software help the teachers overcome the problem of students copying assignments from various platforms ?

Yes, this feature is 99% efficient in detecting whether the assignment is copied from different platform or not.

We have used plagiarism detection for this which is specifically designed to identify similarities between submitted work and existing content available online or in academic databases. This feature works by comparing the submitted text against a vast library of sources to identify any matching phrases, sentences, or paragraphs.

3- Do you think AI generation has caused harm to its potential users of misleading information ?

AI-generated content has both positive and negative implications. On one hand, it can be beneficial in various applications, such as content generation, natural language processing, and assistance in creative processes. On the other hand, it has the potential to cause harm by spreading misleading information or being used for malicious purposes.

Some ways AI-generated content can cause harm include:

  1. Misinformation and fake news: AI can generate realistic-sounding news articles that are entirely false or misleading. This can contribute to the spread of misinformation and have serious consequences, especially in politically or socially sensitive contexts.
  1. Impersonation and deepfakes: AI-generated text, images, or videos can be used to impersonate individuals, manipulate their statements or actions, and create deepfakes, which can damage reputations, violate privacy, and undermine trust.
  1. Manipulative content: AI-generated content can be tailored to manipulate opinions or emotions by appealing to specific biases, fears, or desires, potentially leading to harmful consequences for individuals or society.
  1. Plagiarism and academic dishonesty: AI-generated content can be used by students to complete assignments, bypassing the learning process and compromising academic integrity.

To mitigate these risks, we have invested in research and development of Campus 365’s AI feature that can detect and counteract misleading AI-generated content. Additionally, raising awareness about the potential harms of AI-generated content, promoting digital literacy, and encouraging critical thinking among users can help reduce the impact of misleading information.

4- Will there be an impact on the learning of the students by launching this software ?

Campus 365’s AI Detector feature will always have positive impact on the students like:

  1. Discouraging AI-generated content usage: The presence of an AI detector feature can deter students from using AI-generated content for assignments, thus encouraging them to complete their work independently and engage more deeply with the learning process.
  1. Promoting academic integrity: By detecting AI-generated content, the AI detector feature can help maintain a culture of academic integrity, emphasizing the importance of original work and reinforcing the value of honest effort in education.
  1. Encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving: When students know they cannot rely on AI-generated content, they may be more inclined to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in education and beyond.
  1. Enhanced trust in the educational system: Educators and students who are confident that AI-generated content is being identified and addressed may develop increased trust in the fairness and integrity of the educational system.
  1. Adjusting teaching approaches: As educators become more aware of AI-generated content and its potential impact on learning, they may adapt their teaching methods and assessment strategies to reduce reliance on assignments that can be easily completed using AI-generated content

5- How many schools or other institutions would be adapting to this feature by this FY 24?

Campus 365’s current portfolio of 2000 customers are already enabled with this feature and have started utilizing it to the full potential. As we are targeting to onboard 3000+ new schools in FY 24, a total of 5000 institutions will be adapting this to this feature.
