Renault Duster Hybrid Promises 29 Km/L Mileage

Renault India has revealed the fuel-efficiency figure for its upcoming Duster Strong Hybrid, with the SUV delivering an ARAI-certified mileage of 29 km/l. The announcement comes as the company opens bookings for the hybrid model ahead of its official launch on October 17, 2026.

Duster Hybrid Promises 29 Kmpl Mileage; Bookings Open At Rs 21,0000

The new hybrid powertrain will become the third engine option in the latest-generation Duster range, joining the existing turbo-petrol variants.

Bookings Open For Rs 21,000

Customers can reserve the Renault Duster Hybrid by paying a booking amount of Rs 21,000 through the company’s official website or authorised dealerships.

Renault has reportedly received a strong response to the hybrid model, with its planned allocation for the 2026 calendar year already sold out. The company is expected to announce prices at the October 17 launch.

The strong demand suggests that buyers are interested in a more fuel-efficient alternative to conventional petrol-powered SUVs, particularly as running costs remain an important consideration.

1.8-Litre Petrol Engine With Two Electric Motors

The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack.

The hybrid system produces a combined output of around 160hp, with torque rated at 172Nm. It is designed to improve fuel efficiency by combining petrol power with electric assistance, particularly during city driving.

Unlike a fully electric vehicle, the hybrid does not need to be plugged into an external charger. Its battery is charged through the hybrid system while driving.

Renault says its E-Tech technology draws on experience gained from its motorsport and international hybrid vehicle programmes.

Duster Hybrid Could Beat Maruti And Toyota Rivals

With a claimed mileage of 29 km/l, the Renault Duster Hybrid could outperform several established strong-hybrid SUVs on paper.

Its key competitors include the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid.

These models have already established themselves in India’s fuel-efficient SUV segment. Renault’s mileage claim could give the Duster an advantage, although actual fuel economy will depend on driving conditions, traffic and individual driving styles.

Price And Features Yet To Be Confirmed

Renault has not officially announced the hybrid variant’s final price. The company is expected to reveal the full pricing details on October 17.

The hybrid will join the existing Duster range, which offers 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines with manual and automatic transmission options.

The hybrid variant is expected to appeal to buyers who want SUV practicality without the higher fuel consumption associated with conventional petrol engines.

Can The Hybrid Revive The Duster’s Popularity?

The Duster was among the early models that helped establish India’s compact SUV segment. Its return with a strong-hybrid powertrain could help Renault attract buyers looking for a combination of performance, efficiency and everyday usability.

However, the final price will be critical. A significant premium over the turbo-petrol variants could influence whether buyers choose the hybrid over competing models from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

Summary

Renault India has opened bookings for the Duster Strong Hybrid at Rs 21,000 and announced an ARAI-certified mileage of 29 km/l. The SUV combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery. Its launch is scheduled for October 17, 2026, when prices are expected to be announced. The hybrid will compete with strong-hybrid SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.
