Tesla has opened reservations in India for its next-generation Roadster, an electric sports car that has attracted global attention for its extraordinary performance claims and experimental rocket-powered features. However, the vehicle is not yet ready for customer deliveries, with production expected to begin in 2028.

Bookings For Tesla Roadster, The Flying Car, Begin In India: Rs 2.5 Crore, Expected Price

The announcement has generated excitement among Indian electric vehicle enthusiasts, although buyers should distinguish between reservation amounts and the car’s final purchase price.

Tesla Roadster Reservations and Price in India

According to reports, Tesla is accepting reservations for the Performance and Thrust versions of the Roadster in India. The amounts displayed for these configurations have attracted attention because they run into several lakhs and, for the higher-end version, several crores of rupees.

However, these figures should not automatically be interpreted as confirmed ex-showroom prices. Tesla has not announced final India-specific purchase prices, and the reservation payments are separate from the vehicle’s eventual sale price.

The Rocket package, which includes the full flight system, is available only by invitation. Prospective buyers should check Tesla’s official booking terms before committing any money.

Why Is the Tesla Roadster Being Called a Flying Car?

The Roadster’s most unusual feature is its optional SpaceX-inspired air-thruster system. Tesla has demonstrated a version capable of performing brief airborne manoeuvres, including a mid-air rotation during a presentation in the United States.

The car also features an underbody suction system designed to improve grip. Tesla claims this technology can generate substantial downforce, helping the vehicle remain attached to a specially designed surface during demonstrations.

Despite these features, the Roadster should not be confused with a conventional flying vehicle that can freely travel through the air. Its experimental airborne capabilities do not make it suitable for ordinary flight or unrestricted public-road use.

Performance and Expected Specifications

Tesla has advertised ambitious performance figures for the Roadster, including acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under one second and a top speed exceeding 230 mph. These are manufacturer claims and will need to be verified against the final production model.

Tesla’s India website also lists earlier headline specifications, including a claimed range of up to 1,000 kilometres and a top speed above 400 km/h. Actual range and performance will depend on the final production configuration and testing conditions.

When Will the Tesla Roadster Launch in India?

Tesla has indicated that production is expected to begin in 2028, initially with left-hand-drive vehicles. An official India delivery date and the availability of a right-hand-drive version have not been confirmed.

This is an important consideration for Indian customers, where vehicles are normally configured for right-hand-drive traffic. Even after production begins, local availability, certification and delivery arrangements will need clarification.

What Should Indian Buyers Know?

The Roadster is an ambitious electric sports car that combines extreme acceleration claims with experimental technologies. However, reservations do not guarantee immediate delivery, and the final price, production specifications and India launch schedule remain uncertain.

For now, interested buyers should treat third-party price estimates cautiously and rely on official Tesla announcements for confirmed details. The Roadster may eventually become one of the most unusual electric cars available to customers, but its real-world capabilities and Indian availability will only become clear as development progresses.
