WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging application owned by Meta, is introducing a screen-sharing feature for video calls in its latest beta update for Android.
The update, version 2.23.11.19, is currently available to beta testers who download it from the Google Play Store.
Whatsapp’s New Feature To Allow Users To Share Screens During Video Calls
This new feature allows users to share their screens with recipients during video calls, enabling them to show and discuss content displayed on their devices.
To initiate screen sharing, users need to tap on a dedicated icon within the call control view. Once activated, the feature will continuously transmit the sender’s screen content to the recipient. However, users have full control over this capability and can stop sharing their screens at any time during the call.
It’s worth noting that this feature may not be supported on older Android versions and might not function properly during large group calls. Additionally, if the recipient is using an outdated version of WhatsApp, they may not be able to view the shared content.
WhatsApp Beta Update Also Introduces Changes to the Placement of Tabs
In addition to the screen-sharing feature, the WhatsApp beta update also introduces changes to the placement of tabs within the bottom navigation bar. Some users may observe a new order of tabs, with Chats, Calls, Communities, and Status being arranged in a specific sequence. These changes aim to enhance the user experience and make it easier to navigate through different sections of the app.
While the screen-sharing feature and updated navigation bar are currently available to beta testers, the updates will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. It’s important to note that beta versions may still contain bugs or issues, as they are undergoing testing before a stable release.
WhatsApp continues to refine its features and functionality to provide an enhanced messaging experience for its users. Screen sharing during video calls can be particularly useful for collaborative purposes, enabling users to demonstrate or discuss content in real-time. As these features undergo testing and receive feedback from beta testers, the WhatsApp team will likely make further refinements and improvements before a wider release to all users.
